Larry Meade, president of the Northern Virginia Bird Club, uses his photographs to show how to distinguish sparrows from one another and identify other species that resemble them.
Identifying sparrows is a challenge not just for beginners, but for experienced birders as well. This is especially true in the fall when the number of species in our area increases due to migration. While differences can be subtle, sparrow species vary considerably in their beautiful but cryptic plumage.
