Learn how to use these two Japanese embroidery techniques to reinforce or repair fabric and textiles. Fabric, thread, and needles are available. All experience levels are welcome.
Sashiko is typically stitching with white thread on an indigo background—basically white on blue embroidery. Boro utilizes a simple sashiko stitch, the running stitch, to repair and reinforce fabrics using scraps of fabric in a decorative way. This type of stitching is a great way to upcycle and keep textiles and clothing out of landfills in a creative way. Bring your fiber art labor of love for a discussion about crafting. Get help with your creation or show the group what you are working on.
Offered in partnership with the Fiber Guild of the Blue Ridge.
