This month, discuss America’s options and opportunities as a leader of the world economy, how America’s “foreign policy for the middle class” and strategic competition with China will impact its leadership role, and how the postwar rules and institutions of the world economy can be made safe for economic nationalism and great power competition.
Jared Banks retired from the Department of State's Foreign Service in 2023 after more than 20 years of public service. His career included overseas assignments to the U.S. embassies in Afghanistan, Brazil, Poland, and the United Kingdom, and the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. While in Washington, DC, he worked on foreign policy matters related to strategic competition, international organizations, science and technology, climate and energy transition, and human rights.
