This Thomas Balch Library exhibit highlights the methods and resources used to uncover the stories of Loudoun County women during the American Revolution.
The Thomas Balch Library and Middleburg Library welcome you to explore a pop-up exhibit highlighting the methods and resources researchers use to uncover women’s stories—from legal documents and church registers to wills, land transactions, and rare mentions in newspapers. Drawing on materials from Loudoun County, the exhibit features examples of local women whose lives emerge through these records. Their stories illuminate the diverse roles women played in Revolutionary War-era Virginia—managing households and farms, supporting military efforts, and shaping their communities in ways both visible and unseen.
