Dr. Don Boileau, a retired communication professor from George Mason University, analyzes one of the greatest speeches in U.S. history due to its structure, word choice, and powerful message.

Although the word choices may differ today, King's use of metaphor and imagery reflects the needs of his time. It was a response that perhaps only King had the necessary ethos to deliver.
