Exploring Purcellville's History: Railroads and More

Historian Paul McCray uses photographs, maps, and newspaper headlines to tell the rich history of Purcellville's railroads, mills, fires, and more, from settlement to modern times.

Purcellville was just one of the small villages along the Leesburg to Snickersville Turnpike, but it grew more quickly than others due to the multiple roads that ran north and south. Once the railroad reached town in 1874, it became the largest community in western Loudoun.
