Retired Lt. Col. Robert Holcomb explores the failed 1980 mission to free U.S. embassy hostages in Tehran, tracing its detailed planning, complex execution, and lasting aftermath.
Dr. Robert C. Holcomb is an adjunct staff member at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in Alexandria, VA. He retired from the Army in 1993 with the rank of lieutenant colonel after a distinguished 20-year career. He is the author of the book Stone Tapestry: A Visual and Historical Guide to the West Point Cemetery.
Dr. Holcomb will also present Operation Entebbe on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at Cascades Library. He will compare the two hostage rescue missions and highlight why one succeeded and the other failed.
