Dr. Hatrick from Loudoun Laurels and LCPS English teacher Barry Blair discuss what success looks like for first-generation students, the obstacles they face, and LCPS programs to help them succeed.
Dr. Edgar B. Hatrick, III, is the Vice Chair of the Loudoun Laurels Board of Directors and a 2013 Loudoun Laureate. He served as Superintendent of the Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) system from 1991 to 2014. Highly praised and much honored, Dr. Hatrick is credited with playing a key role in making Loudoun County’s public school system a model not only for Virginia but for the entire United States.
Barry Blair brings 20 years of educational expertise to the panel, currently serving as the AVID District Director for LCPS and an English teacher at Tuscarora High School. Over 18 years with the AVID program, he has guided countless students through the intricacies of college and career readiness. Drawing on his own journey as a first-generation college student, Blair is passionate about helping students translate their LCPS experiences into a roadmap for future success, regardless of their path.
